Our professionally developed training platform through Ace Human Services provides the knowledge and skills required to deliver exceptional quality of home care services and support for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout the Chicago metro area, including Cook and Lake counties.

Direct Support Person (DSP)

Direct Support Professional (DSP) must be a Certified Nurse Aides (CNA) or DSP listed on the DD State registry.  DSP must be reliable, dependable, honest, and caring.  DSP are not allowed to smoke in clients’ homes and must have their own transportation.  Some may need to take clients to appointments or run errands.  This will require them to possess a valid driver’s license and to have current automobile insurance.  DSP must be observant enough to recognize changes in their clients, and be capable of alerting the appropriate personnel when necessary.

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) supports a child or adult with an intellectual and developmental disability to increase their personal self-determination and improve their own independence.

Major Responsibilities and Abilities:

  1. Support consistency in our clients personal care routines
  2. Able to teach our clients to acquire new skills and refine existing ones in the area of personal care tasks  and other activities of daily living, communication, decision-making and socialization
  3. Able to educate our clients on how to make informed decisions and advocate for themselves
  4. Able to explore of an individual’s strengths and build support to assist the individual achieve their goals
  5. Able to remind clients how to do activities when they are physically capable of doing them
  6. Must provide documentation of our clients health care, mental health or behavioral needs and related maintenance needs
  7. Transportation to doctor’s appointment, pick up prescriptions and groceries, shopping, visiting family and friends or pursuing recreational activities and community inclusion activities
  8. Confidentiality and informed consent

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  1. Experience as a CNA or a DSP required in a home care setting or skilled facility.
  2. Experience as a DSP and listed on the DD State Registry (preferred but not required)
  3. Must meet hiring criteria as defined in the agency’s minimum standards.
  4. Must be able to function with minimal supervision, accepting personal responsibility for maintaining a professional relationship with the client.
  5. Must accept responsibility for maintaining skills and learning on an ongoing basis, as well as adhering to agency policies.

Physical Qualifications:

  1. Able to work an average of 20-40 hours per week.
  2. Able to bend, climb, stoop, and stand an average of 5 hours per day.
  3. Able to lift 20-30 pounds.
  4. Able to use tools necessary for job.
  5. Able to communicate effectively.

Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional (QIDP)

Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professionals (QIDP) or Service Facilitators consider the needs and desires of each child and adult as they develop, monitor, and advocate for the appropriate individualized habilitation plans. Habilitation is the process of supplying an individual with the means to develop maximum independence in activities of daily living through training or treatment.

  • Habilitation plans are important tools for assisting individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities in reaching and maintaining their maximum potential
  • Our Service Facilitators develop a plan to take into account all areas of adaptive behavior  that are appropriate for the age, communication and learning style, and skill level of the individual including:
  1. Personal grooming needs
  2. Meal planning and preparing food
  3. Housekeeping activities
  4. Taking medication
  5. Handling money
  6. Education
  7. Traveling
  8. Socializing
  9. Working
  10. Leisure and recreational activities
  • Our QIDPs also are responsible for ensuring the rights of the individuals receiving services are not being violated.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork including, but not limited to, Individual Service Plans and ICAP evaluations in a timely fashion.

  1. Experience as a QIDP or a Social Worker in a home care setting or skilled facility preferred.
  2. Listed on the State Registry as a QIPD
  3. Must meet hiring criteria as defined in the agency’s minimum standards.
  4. Must be able to function with minimal supervision, accepting personal responsibility for maintaining a professional relationship with the client.
  5. Must accept responsibility for maintaining skills and learning on an ongoing basis, as well as adhering to agency policies.
